Okra which is also known as Bhendi in Hindi or Konkani is a vegetable found easily in any Goan Market. The Bhendi Bhaji is the most easy and very tasty vegan recipe which taste best with any Indian meal, rice or bread.

The Ingredients that goes into this tasty dish are simple veggies like onions and tomatoes that are blended with local spices that gives it its taste and aroma.

  • Bhendi-200 gms
  • Onion-1 medium
  • Tomato-small
  • Green chilli-1
  • Jeera-1 tsp
  • Kokum petals-3 to 4
  • Turmeric powder-¼ tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil-1 tbsp


  • In a pan add oil, once heated add the jeera and green chillies
  • Add the onions and mix well, once translucent add the cut tomato
  • Add the cut bhendi and mix well, add the salt, turmeric powder. cover with lid and cook it on a low flame for 10 min.
  • Then add the kokum petals and cook for another 2 min.
  • The bhendi bhaji is ready to serve.

This delicious vegan dish has a dry texture and is best paired with hot steamed rice as a main vegetable. That can be served both for lunch and dinner.
