The Goan Prawn curry is one of the famous and staple foods of Goa. The Goa’s favorite Fish Curry Rice mainly consist of the Goan Prawn Curry. The curry is a mixture of grated coconut and various Goan spices that are ground together to give a delicious taste. So, here’s the authentic Goan Prawn Curry Recipe.


  • 250g prawns (medium)
  • 1 coconut grated
  • 6-8 kashmiri chillies
  • 8-10 small red chillies
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2tbsp coriander seeds
  • 10 pepper corns
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1 small ball of tamarind
  • ½ onion 
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • ½ “ginger
  • 4-5 dried kokum petals(sola)
  • 4-5 mango pieces(dried)
  • Salt to taste

  • Clean the prawns(deshell) and deveined. Wash and apply salt
  • In a mixer, add the grated coconut, Kashmiri chilies, small red chilies, turmeric powder, coriander seeds, peppercorns, cumin seeds, tamarind, onion, ginger, garlic, and water to grind into a fine paste. keep aside.
  • To make the curry, add oil in a large bottomed saucepan, medium heat 
  • Add the ground masala with water, let it boil
  • Then add the prawns, kokum petals and dried mango slices. let it cook for another 10 minutes
  • Serve hot with steamed rice
