Stuffed Squids

Goa’s most popular and classic seafood delight is the Squids also known as Calamari. Well, there are many ways to cook squids, but the most delicious and fiery tasting are the stuffed squids. The squids are cleaned and stuffed with a filling of sautéed onions mixed with the squids tentacles or sometimes prawns with added spices and fried by applying the famous Goan tangy recheado masala.


  • squids-12(medium)
  • Onion-3 medium
  • Tomato -1
  • Green chillies-2
  • Coriander leaves-1 tbsp
  • Recheado masala- 2tbsp
  • Sugar ¼  tsp(optional)
  • Oil- 3tbsp
  • Salt as per taste
Stuffed Squids


  • Clean the squids, chop the tentacles, apply the salt and keep aside
  • In a pan, sauté the onion with 1tbsp oil, till translucent
  • Add the chopped green chillies and sauté. Then add the tentacles and let it cook for 5 min
  • Next, add the tomatoes till soft, then add the recheado masala and cook for 6-8 min
  • Check for salt, sugar and add if needed. Add the chopped coriander leaves and mix.
  • Let it cool
  • Once cooled, stuff the squids only little more than half.
  • Use toothpick to seal the opening
  • Take a pan , add oil and the recheado masala. Then add the stuffed squids and sauté for a min. Add ½ cup water
  • Cover and cook for 12-15min
  • Finally add the ketchup. Cook uncovered for 2-3 min.
  • Serve hot
